If you’re anything like me, the idea of finding that perfect resort getaway is always on the radar. That’s why I headed to Cultus Lake in British Columbia, a place I’ve come to know quite well over my several visits. Cultus Lake is a peaceful spot with sparkling waters and tranquil forests tucked away in the Fraser Valley.

I’ve stayed at quite a few of the local resorts, each with its charm. Cultus Lake has everything from family-friendly spots where the kids can run free to quiet nooks perfect for a couple’s retreat. In this article, I will take you through some of the best resorts I’ve enjoyed staying in.

Best Cultus Lake Resorts

I’ve graded the resorts based on several factors close to any traveller’s heart. This includes their location,  the overall ambience, the dining experiences they offer, the range of amenities, the quality of service, and, importantly, what other guests have said. I’m also throwing in my experiences and thoughts of what it’s like to stay there.

Ocean Promenade Hotel

Ocean Promenade Hotel’s location is its biggest draw – it’s just a stone’s throw away from the peaceful lakeside, offering easy access to the lake. It exudes a contemporary charm blended with a warm, welcoming vibe.

The room I stayed in was a delightful surprise. Spacious and elegantly furnished, it offered a comfortable king-sized bed, a modern en-suite bathroom, and a private balcony with a breathtaking lake view.

Dining at the Ocean Promenade was a culinary journey. The hotel boasts an on-site restaurant, ‘Finlay’s East Beach Cafe”, which serves various delicious local and international dishes. The highlight of my dining experience was the fresh, locally sourced seafood – an authentic taste of British Columbia. A remarkable thing about my suite was that it came with a kitchen. Having the option to whip up a quick meal or snack in my own space was super convenient.

The hotel’s amenities added an extra layer of comfort to my stay. The fitness centre, though compact, was well-equipped for a quick workout. I particularly enjoyed the spa services – the massage I had was rejuvenating. The hotel also provides complimentary Wi-Fi, which was reliable throughout my stay, and a business centre, which I found handy for checking emails.

The service at Ocean Promenade Hotel genuinely stood out. Every staff member I met with was friendly and knowledgeable. I glanced through guest reviews before booking and noticed consistent praise for the hotel’s location and cleanliness. After my stay, I can affirm that these reviews were spot-on. The hotel maintains high standards.

One thing to note about the Ocean Promenade Hotel is its proximity to train tracks. During my stay, I noticed the occasional rumble of trains passing by. It’s something to remember if you’re a light sleeper or not used to the sound of trains.

I recently stayed at Vedder River Inn in Chilliwack’s scenic Fraser Valley. It’s a peaceful spot, blending nature’s beauty with the convenience of city amenities just minutes away. The environment here reminded me of the Alpine chalets in Europe, offering a serene, rustic setting.

The Inn offers rooms and suites suitable for various needs – from a weekend getaway to longer family vacations or monthly stays. I found the rooms spacious during my visit, catering to comfort and business needs. My room had a cosy, welcoming vibe, with all the amenities for a comfortable stay.

While Vedder River Inn doesn’t have on-site restaurants, its location in Chilliwack means plenty of dining options are nearby. I enjoyed exploring local eateries, each offering a unique regional taste. The variety of restaurants, pubs, and cafes within a short distance added to the convenience of my stay. Plus, the inclusion of a small kitchenette in the Inn was a handy addition, allowing for the flexibility of preparing simple meals or snacks right in my room.

Although the Inn focuses more on providing a comfortable resting place, the surrounding area is rich with activities and attractions. The proximity to Cultus Lake was perfect for outdoor enthusiasts like me, offering opportunities for hiking, boating, and exploring the natural beauty of British Columbia.

The staff at Vedder River Inn were friendly and helpful, contributing significantly to the pleasant atmosphere of my stay. They were knowledgeable about the local area and eager to offer recommendations for dining and activities. Considering its comfort and great location, Vedder River Inn is a great deal, especially if you’re looking for a place close to nature.

One thing to note about my stay at Vedder River Inn is that all the rooms are non-smoking. They do have a designated smoking area on site. But if you prefer the convenience of smoking closer to your room, this might be something to think about.

I had a great time at Maple Bay Cabins, close to the lovely Cultus Lake. It’s a quiet, peaceful place, hidden away in the woods of British Columbia, but still easy to get to. Being near Cultus Lake is nice, especially if you like being by the water and enjoying nature.

Maple Bay Cabins doesn’t have a restaurant, but the cabin’s kitchen meant I could prepare my meals, adding a nice, personal touch to my stay. Cultus Lake’s local restaurants were a short drive away, providing a range of dining choices for nights when I wanted to avoid cooking.

The amenities at Maple Bay focus on enhancing the natural experience. There’s no pool or gym, but the nature trails and proximity to Cultus Lake more than makeup for it. I spent my days hiking and enjoying water activities on the lake.

My time at Fraser River Lodge, just a bit away from Cultus Lake, was like stepping into a postcard. Located right by the stunning Fraser River and surrounded by the beautiful nature of British Columbia, the lodge’s spot is extraordinary. The peaceful river and amazing mountain views create a calm, almost dreamlike setting.

The lodge’s rooms were a delightful blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. I stayed in a room that offered a stunning view of the river, a treat to wake up to each morning. The room was spacious and elegantly furnished.

Dining at the lodge was an experience in itself. The on-site restaurant served various exquisite dishes focusing on local and seasonal ingredients. The highlight of my dining experience was the fresh, locally sourced seafood and game prepared perfectly. The restaurant’s ambience, with its rustic decor and warm lighting, complemented the overall dining experience.

The lodge organises fishing trips– a must-try for any visitor – the Fraser River is known for its rich fish populations. The lodge has a well-maintained outdoor area, perfect for an evening stroll or to enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the property.

The staff were welcoming and attentive from the moment I arrived, going above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable. Before my visit, I read reviews praising the lodge for its stunning location, exceptional dining, and friendly staff. My experience echoed these sentiments.

One thing I found a bit limiting at Fraser River Lodge was their policy on alcohol. You’re not allowed to drink in the rooms or bring your own from outside. You have to buy whatever they serve. This was a bit of a surprise and something to keep in mind if you enjoy having your own choice of drinks during your stay.

During my stay at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Centre, I noticed that my room, at the front of the hotel, faced the highway. This meant a bit of noise throughout the night, which was slightly disruptive for me. If you’re sensitive to noise, it’s something to remember when booking a room here.

Rowena’s Inn on the River, located in Harrison Mills, offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern convenience. The 1920s colonial estate inn sits on a secluded 160-acre property facing the Harrison River. The resort’s ambience, combining European elegance with rustic charm, is truly captivating.

The Inn has two distinct accommodations: the main Inn with a 1920s colonial feel and the rustic classic cottages and nature luxury series cabins. I stayed in one of the cabins, which featured a jacuzzi tub, heated floors, and a wood-burning fireplace, making for a cosy and intimate experience.

During my stay at Rowena’s Inn, I had the chance to enjoy their Fireside Theme Dining, which is a unique culinary experience with a wood-burning fireplace. However, this dining option is only available during certain special events. For everyday meals, I dined at the Clubhouse Restaurant, which is open all year and serves a wide range of dishes.
