Colorado is a state as rich in scenery as it is in adventure. It’s a place where deserts sprawl beneath towering, snow-capped mountains. Colorado is sunny all year round and offers the perfect combination of warm sunshine and cool breezes.

In my search for the best family holiday resorts in Colorado, I was impressed by the breathtaking views in the state. I visited several resorts across the diverse landscape, each offering a unique experience for families.

I’ve lived the resort life in my travels, from action-packed outdoor adventures suitable for all ages to cosy in front of the fire. I’ve experienced first-hand how welcoming Colorado is. I aim to share these experiences with you and give you a clear picture of the resorts that made our family holidays special. This report is a collection of those experiences.

Best Colorado Family Resorts

I’ve taken a close look at what each place offers. My reviews are based on several essential aspects: where the resort is, its overall feel, the food, what you can do there, how good the service is, and what other guests have said, as well as my thoughts.

This adventure was about more than just rating these places. It was about understanding how each resort creates special moments for everyone who visits, whether you’re there with family, a partner, or on your own.

Viceroy Snowmass

The Viceroy Snowmass stands out in Snowmass Village, designed by the renowned Jean-Michel-Gathy of Denniston International. Its commitment to the environment is evident in its choice of materials and finishes. This balance of luxury and care for the planet made our stay feel both indulgent and responsible.

Our room blended comfort and luxury with eco-friendly touches that echoed the resort’s environmental ethos. The highlight was waking up to incredible views of Snowmass Village, making every morning serene and special. The design was thoughtful and spacious.

The dining experience at the Viceroy was a journey of flavours. We particularly loved dining at Toro Kitchen & Lounge, where the standout dish was the seared trout – a meal we still discuss. Beyond the delicious food, the friendly and attentive staff made our meals memorable.

The resort was packed with activities for all ages. From morning yoga sessions to direct access to skiing, there was always something to do. The ski school was a hit with the kids, while the spa and hot tub offered a perfect relaxing escape. The babysitting service was a bonus, giving us peace of mind to enjoy some moments.

The service at the Viceroy was second to none. We were welcomed with open arms, and the staff was always available to help us with anything. Our experience mirrors the positive reviews from other guests. The Viceroy Snowmass shines in delivering a luxurious yet family-friendly experience. The meticulous attention to detail, from room comforts to personalised service, made our time here unforgettable.

One thing to note is the additional charges for resort amenities and parking. While this is fairly standard for luxury accommodations, it’s something to remember when planning your budget.

Grand Hyatt Vail

Right from the start, the resort’s location impressed us. Being at the mountain’s base meant we could easily hit the slopes. The Grand Hyatt mixes luxury with the natural beauty of Vail, creating a welcoming and thrilling setting for our family trip.

The room we stayed in was special. Waking up to a beautiful mountain view each morning was a highlight. The room felt like it brought the outdoors inside, making it a peaceful and cosy place to relax after a day of exploring.

The dining experience at the Grand Hyatt Vail was a highlight of our stay. With several on-site restaurants, each meal was an opportunity to explore different cuisines. We especially loved the Colorado lamb at Gessner. It was a dish we’d remember, perfectly cooked and full of local flavours.

The resort was packed with activities for the family. Starting the day with a yoga class, having the kids learn skiing at ski school, and enjoying horseback riding were just a few of the things on offer. They even had video games for the kids, ensuring they always had something to do. It was clear they’d thought about keeping kids of all ages entertained.

The staff at the Grand Hyatt Vail were amazing. They made sure we had everything we needed, always with a smile. This made our stay feel extra special, adding a personal touch to our holiday. Our great experience matches what we’ve read in other guest reviews. The fantastic facilities, excellent service, and kid-friendly atmosphere have left a strong impression on us.

One thing that could be better was the soundproofing in the rooms. We could sometimes hear noise from next door. It wasn’t a big issue, but we noticed it now and then.

Hotel Jerome, Auberge Resorts Collection

Hotel Jerome has been a central part of Aspen’s social scene since it opened its doors in 1889, during the peak of the town’s silver mining boom. Walking into the hotel, you’re immediately transported back in time with all the modern luxuries you could wish for. The hotel has retained its historical charm, making it feel like you’re stepping into a piece of Aspen’s history.

Our room at Hotel Jerome was a delightful mix of historic elegance and contemporary comfort. What stood out to us was the unique décor that paid homage to Aspen’s heritage and modern amenities that ensured our stay was comfortable. The room felt spacious and was a cosy retreat after a day of exploring Aspen.

The dining experience at Hotel Jerome was a highlight of our stay. We particularly enjoyed our meals at the Prospect restaurant, where the star dish was the Colorado lamb. It was cooked to perfection and showcased the local flavours beautifully. However, the service was sometimes slow, a minor hiccup in an otherwise delightful dining experience.

Hotel Jerome offers a range of amenities that cater well to our family’s needs. From babysitting services that allowed my partner and me to enjoy some alone time in the sauna, the facilities were relaxing. You can also enjoy their massage services and hot tub that provides relaxation after a day of skiing. The hotel also organised children’s activities, ensuring our kids were entertained and engaged throughout our stay.

The service at Hotel Jerome was exemplary. The staff went out of their way to make our family feel welcome and attended to our every need with a smile. Our personal experience at Hotel Jerome resonates with the positive feedback from other guests. The hotel’s unique charm, attentive service, and family-friendly amenities left a lasting impression on us.

The Gant is nestled right at the foot of Aspen Mountain. This spot stood out for its peaceful setting, which was still conveniently close to the town centre and the ski lifts. The resort’s design respects the environment, using sustainable practices that don’t sacrifice a bit of elegance. It was the perfect calm backdrop for our family after days filled with adventure.

Our room at The Gant was something special. Designed with nature in mind, using eco-friendly materials, it looked good and felt spacious, too – a real plus for a family needing room to breathe. The balcony was a highlight, offering views of the mountains that were simply breathtaking.

Though The Gant had limited dining choices on-site, what was available was top-notch. We loved eating at Pepperjack’s Café, where the local trout was our standout dish. Fresh and flavoured, it was a meal that showcased the best of the area’s produce.

The Gant was packed with things to do. Whether it was hitting the slopes for skiing, going on a hike, trying our hand at fishing, or exploring on horseback, there was never a dull moment. They even had babysitting, which was a lifesaver, giving us time to enjoy activities just for the adults. The tennis court was another family favourite, offering a fun way to stay active.

Our positive experience at The Gant matches up with the glowing reviews from other guests. It’s a place that gets it right from location to rooms, activities, and service.

The only minor issue was getting help with our luggage when we arrived and when we were leaving. A bit more assistance would have been appreciated.

Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk

Source: Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk

The Ameristar Casino Resort Spa is not your typical family getaway spot, but it surprised us with its luxury. It has 536 guest rooms and 64 suites offering beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains. Walking into the resort, you’re greeted with a sense of grandeur and space.

Our room was spacious and offered more than just a place to sleep. It had comfortable beds and a view that was simply unforgettable. The unique aspect was how well it catered to families, with enough space for everyone to spread out and relax without feeling cramped.

Dining at the Ameristar, which had several restaurants, was a treat. We enjoyed the Timberline Grill, where the prime rib was a standout dish, cooked to perfection and a hit with the whole family. The food quality and the restaurant’s ambience added to our overall experience.

The resort is packed with amenities that cater to both adults and children. The heated pool was a family favourite, providing a relaxing space to unwind. For the adults, the spa offered a tranquil escape, and we indulged in a couple’s massage, which was heavenly. The hot tub was another spot we frequented to soak in and relax. While the casino was more for the adults, it added a vibrant atmosphere to the resort.

The service and hospitality at the Ameristar were top-notch. The staff were always friendly and went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Our positive experience at the Ameristar echoes the sentiments of many other guests. The blend of luxury accommodations, diverse dining options, and family-friendly amenities make it a standout option.

However, one area that could use improvement was the service in the casino. There was a noticeable delay in service, and we found it challenging to get a drink while waiting for over two hours in the casino.

Park Hyatt Beaver Creek Resort and Spa

The Park Hyatt is a place for year-round mountain adventures. In winter, stepping out directly onto the slopes was a dream come true, especially with the ski school. For summer, the resort transforms, offering lawn games and cosy outdoor firepits.

Our room at the Park Hyatt was a cosy retreat with a view that took our breath away every morning. The unique feature for us was the thoughtful touches tailored for families, like the snug bunk beds for the kids, which they loved. It felt like a home away from home, with enough space for the whole family to relax comfortably.

The dining at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek was a delightful experience. We dined at 8100 Mountainside Bar & Grill, where the American Bison was our standout dish, bursting with flavours that were a testament to the local cuisine. The warm & inviting atmosphere of the restaurant, combined with the exquisite dishes, made every meal a joy.

The resort was packed with amenities that kept the whole family entertained. The golf course and yoga room offered a serene escape for the adults. Meanwhile, the mini-golf and kid-friendly menus were hits with the children. The ski school, kids club, and babysitting services ensured the children were constantly engaged, giving us peace of mind to enjoy the spa or a quiet walk.

The service at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above & beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. Our positive experience at the resort reflects the glowing reviews from other guests. The excellent facilities and dedicated service make it a standout choice for families.

The only downside was that the pool was under construction during our stay, which was a bit of a letdown for the kids looking forward to some pool time.

The Broadmoor

Located under the majestic Rocky Mountains, the Broadmoor extends over 5,000 acres, with an additional 2,000 acres dedicated to The Broadmoor Wilderness Experience properties. It captivated us with its lush surroundings and the serene shadow of the Rockies. The resort was the perfect setting for our family to unwind and reconnect, surrounded by nature’s grandeur.

Our room at The Broadmoor was a delightful surprise, blending luxury with comfort in a way that immediately felt welcoming. A unique feature was the attention to detail in the room’s design, reflecting the natural beauty of Colorado.

The dining experience at The Broadmoor was nothing short of exceptional. With several on-site restaurants to choose from, each meal was a new adventure. The only downside was the additional parking charge. While not a significant issue, it was an extra expense that we had to account for during our stay.

The St. Regis Aspen Resort

Sitting at the foot of Aspen Mountain, this five-star spot wrapped us in luxury the moment we arrived. The feel of The St. Regis Aspen was breathtaking. Surrounded by mountains, its luxurious setup made us feel like we were in a special place. It was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature’s beauty.

Our room was a slice of luxury, with thoughtful details that made it extra special. The décor was top-notch, reflecting the resort’s high standards. But what caught our eye each morning was the view of Aspen Mountain, reminding us of our incredible location.

Eating at The St. Regis Aspen was a highlight. The resort’s restaurants served up some amazing dishes. The Truffle Croquettes particularly took us to the Velvet Buck, deliciously prepared and beautifully presented, making every meal feel like an occasion.

The facilities here were fantastic for families. The heated outdoor pool & hot tubs were our favourites, offering relaxation with stunning views. The resort ensured the kids were always entertained with various activities, and the shuttle service made getting to the ski slopes a breeze. The spa was a peaceful retreat for a bit of adult downtime.

The service at The St. Regis Aspen was outstanding. The staff ensured we had everything we needed for a memorable stay right after our arrival. Their care and attention made us feel welcome, enhancing our holiday experience. Our experience at The St. Regis Aspen reflects many other guests’ words.

The only downside was the price of drinks. A martini cost $18; if you wanted an olive, that was $1 extra. While we expected some premium prices, these were a bit higher than anticipated, which did add up over our stay.

Beaver Run Resort & Conference Center

Nestled right where the mountain meets Main Street, this spot offered us the best of both worlds. It provides easy access to the peaceful mountainside and a quick hop to the lively streets of Breckenridge. The vibe at Beaver Run was just right, blending the excitement of being near the slopes with the charm of being close to town.

Our room was cosy and well-thought-out, especially the balcony, which became our favourite spot to soak in the mountain air and views. However, we did notice the lack of air conditioning, which made our room quite warm during the day. Thankfully, the evenings were cooler, thanks to the mountain breeze.

Eating at Beaver Run was a treat, with plenty of options. Our meal at Spencer’s Restaurant was memorable, especially the Bison Ribeye, which was delicious. The warm atmosphere of the restaurant made our dining experience even better.

The resort was packed with things to do. We loved the hiking trails, allowing us to explore the beautiful surroundings. The saltwater pool was a big hit with the kids, and the spa and sauna were perfect for relaxation. The availability of a ski school and tennis court added to our fun.

The staff at Beaver Run were terrific; they were always friendly and ready to help, ensuring our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Our great experience at Beaver Run matches up with what we’ve read from other guests. With its fantastic mix of facilities, friendly staff, and unbeatable location, it’s a top pick for families.

Known for its ski-in, ski-out service, the Sheraton Steamboat Resort Villas promises easy access to the slopes, exactly what we were looking for. The resort had a welcoming vibe that mixed luxury with a cosy feel. We could step out of our room and straight onto the ski slopes.

Our room was cosy, with a fireplace that became the heart of our evening relaxation. It was more than just a place to sleep; it felt like our place where we could warm up and chat about our day’s adventures.

Eating at the resort was a treat. We had a memorable meal at Saddles Bar and Grill, where the Sweet Soy-Glazed Salmon was appetising. The friendly atmosphere in the restaurant made our dining experience even more enjoyable.

The resort was packed with things to do. The heated pool was a favourite for the kids, providing a warm spot to play in the snow. We spent our evenings in the game room, which was loads of fun, and the spa offered a peaceful break for a bit of adult relaxation. The picnic area was a lovely spot for meals with a view, letting us enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.

The resort staff were wonderful, ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Their friendly and attentive service made us feel welcome and valued as guests.

However, we noticed that not all guests were happy with the service at the bar. Some bartenders seemed unfriendly to other guests, which was a shame. We didn’t have this issue ourselves, but it was something we saw.

Takeaway

Discovering Colorado’s top spots for families was an adventure filled with fun, relaxation, and many memories. Each place we stayed had something special that made our holiday perfect, from skiing right out of our room to relaxing in cosy fire-lit lounges.
